Spring has sprung and you know what that means ladies... time for that annual cleaning to refresh your wardrobe and jewelry box! I'm sure you not only have some clothes and shoes but some jewelry that you need to chuck this season. It doesn't have to be a major overhaul it's just a few steps and you'll have a more organized jewelry wardrobe so you won't have to go hunting for the mate to that earring next time you're running late and tryna' get dressed. So keep reading to find out how to give your jewelry box a spring cleaning lovelies.
Clean It Out
Girl, start by throwing on some comfy sweats, putting your hair up in a bun and grabbing a cup of tea, glass of wine or whatever you like to make sure you're relaxed and at ease. Then lay all of your pieces out on a table or desk so you can see everything in your collection. Now you are going to create four sections one that is for pieces that you will keep, one for anything that needs repairs, one for anything that needs to be cleaned and the last for anything that you will discard or donate. Now take inventory of each piece that you have. Matching up any loose earrings, untangle any necklaces and group the rings and bracelets together. Check each piece for broken clasps, prongs or links. Yea it's finally time for you to get your favorite necklace fixed so you can put it back into rotation. So put all of the qualifying pieces into the repair section. Check for any pieces that may need to be cleaned, like those chandelier earrings that still have a film from your foundation on the back because you haven't worn them since that holiday office party (smh we've all been there I'm not judging). Just put those pieces in the cleaning section. Now that you've gotten those pieces out of the way it's time to focus on what's left. Are there some pieces here that you haven't worn in the past year? Then you probably wont wear them this year either I'm just sayin'. Place those pieces in the discard or donate section so later you can decide their fate. Give some thought to whether or not you should save those pieces or let them go. Ask yourself questions like...
- Can you earn some coins from it? If the answer is yes, then you can take it to a consignment shop to have them sell it for you. Or you can list it on eBay or a site like Poshmark where you can sell your pieces.
- Can it be revamped? If you want to give it a lil' refresh go for it! Head to a jeweler to give it an update.
- If it has sentimental value? Then set it aside and ask around you may have a family member that would love it (even if that someone isn't even born yet, hello my future daughter will have bangles for days).
Get Organized
Organize and place the remaining pieces that you'll keep back into your jewelry box, armoire or jewelry tree. This is also a good time to see if there are any pieces that you would like to add to your jewelry wardrobe, since you just created some space *giggles*.
